In this video I'm talking about 2 types of shame.
1. Shame that is healthy and prosocial [yes thats a thing!]
2. Shame that is toxic, chronic and dysfunctional.

One of my Somatic Experiencing colleagues, David D. Rosenroll coined the term somatic shame, a branch of toxic shame. 'chronic shame can produce a deep body-based experience of shame ~ I am bad, I am the problem, I am unlovable, I am incompetent.'
Toxic shame can be physically and emotionally painful where is healthy shame teaches us how to repair and self-inhibit so our culture remains safe and structured. Understanding how shame works in our bodies and the bodies of our communities and world is tremendously important. Thank you for taking 10 minutes out of your day to be here!
